The festival @ LUNCH: Russian Bells
Australia
Russian pianist Konstantin Shamray, winner of the Sydney International Piano Competition, presents works by Rachmaninov and others inspired by the sounds of Russian Orthodox bells. Works include Scriabin’s White Mass – with bells near and far; the world premiere of Golden Ring by Charles Bodman Rae, which takes its inspiration from the luxuriant bell harmonies of Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov; and the ‘bell tolling to the walls of a city under the horizon’ in Ravel’s Gaspard de la Nuit.
